Fat, the Key to Hair Loss

Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in men and women, and emerging science has uncovered a relationship between adipose tissue (fat) and androgenetic alopecia.1 As adipose tissue in the scalp declines, hair follicles stop producing hair.

“Scalp fat is integral to the hair follicle growth cycle. Fat layer thinning goes hand-in-hand with hair follicle shrinking and hair shedding.”

Kerastem™ Reawakens Hair Follicles

Kerastem hair therapy utilizes the relationship between fat—a rich source of regenerative cells—and hair growth. When combined and injected into the scalp, purified fat and adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRC) have been found to reawaken declining and dormant hair follicles, helping subjects attain a thicker, fuller head of hair and renew hair growth in balding or thinning areas.2

Before & After Kerastem Hair Therapy

Patients are shown before and 12 months after a 1-time Kerastem hair therapy treatment.

Simple, Yet Superior

In a phase II clinical trial, Kerastem hair therapy demonstrated a statistically significant increase in terminal hair counts in males with early hair loss relative to the control population at 24 weeks. This one-time treatment is easily performed in a clinical setting at the point of care using the following process:

  1. Harvest, purify, and resize a small volume of fat with the Dermapose® system.
  2. Separate and concentrate regenerative cells from the fat using a centrifuge and mix with the purified adipose tissue.
  3. Inject the purified, "enriched" adipose tissue into the scalp.
